Want a 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 in your garage? Get yourself down toyour Dodge dealer's ASAP (if not sooner), because there's a good chancethe SRT8's less-than-10,000-cars '08 model run may sell out.
4,300 people placed orders and put down deposits for the first-to-be-built version of the New Challenger on December 3rd, the firstday it was available for order. Two days later, the pre-order total wasup to 6,000---and climbing.
"This is unprecedented," Mark Mallie, Challenger's brand manager, toldThe Detroit News. "Customers were actually coming to us and pushing us,so we thought this was a good time to take presale orders." Meanwhile,Chuck Eddy of Bob & Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep near Youngstown, Ohiotold The Detroit Free Press, "There's a lot of excitement on the car. Wealready have a dozen legitimate sold orders in the system."
Sources at ChryCo's main base in Auburn Hills say the pre-order demandis on a par with that of the PT Cruiser, when it debuted in 2000.
Now, what we'd like to know from you folks who've ordered ChallengerSRT8's is: When and where did you place your order? Is your dealercharging additional mark-up over the $37,995 sticker price (and if so,how much)? Did your dealer give an estimate of when it'll be ready fordelivery to you?
